Discovering a lump on your eyelid can be unsettling, and it is completely natural to feel concerned about how it looks or feels. A chalazion is a very common, harmless cyst that forms when a tiny oil gland in the eyelid becomes blocked. While many resolve on their own, some can linger, causing discomfort, irritation, or simply making you feel unlike yourself. Whether it is tenderness, blurred vision from the pressure, or an aesthetic worry, your experience is entirely valid.
My approach to care leaves surgical ego completely at the door. I believe that meaningful treatment is never about a doctor dictating what to fix. It is entirely about you. My first priority is to give you a safe space where you feel genuinely heard, validated, and understood, so I can find out exactly what is bothering you and what you would like improved.
As an Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon, my clinical focus is entirely dedicated to the delicate balance of the eyelids. When we sit down together, we will discuss your symptoms and explore all your options, starting with conservative care like warm compresses and gentle massage to encourage the trapped oil to drain naturally. If a chalazion is persistent or causing you distress, we can discuss clinical treatments like a targeted steroid injection or a minor surgical removal.
We will openly discuss what can honestly and comfortably be achieved, ensuring you feel completely confident before making any choices. There is no rush and no pressure - we will only move forward with a treatment plan when you feel entirely ready and fully supported.
"True care means listening closely to what's on your mind, so we can gently restore your comfort and confidence."
— Dr. Swan Kang
A chalazion occurs when a meibomian gland, a tiny oil-producing gland in your eyelid, becomes blocked. The backed-up oil creates a firm, usually painless lump. They are incredibly common and can happen to anyone, though factors like blepharitis or dry eyes can make you more prone to them. The most important thing to know is that they are completely benign, but if one is bothering you, we can certainly help.
No, there will not be a visible scar. During the short procedure, a tiny incision is made on the inner surface (the conjunctival side) of your eyelid to carefully drain the cyst. Because we work from the inside, the delicate skin on the outside of your eyelid remains untouched, allowing for a discreet and natural-looking recovery.
The best way forward is simply to have an open conversation. Everyone's experience with an eyelid cyst is different, and the right choice depends on your symptoms and - most importantly - what you want to achieve. My role is to listen to your goals and give you the clear information you need to make the right choice for your lifestyle.
